How to connect Mixxx to NOX Radio.

Mixxx is a free, open-source DJ application popular with community stations for live mix shows. It includes a built-in live broadcasting feature you can point straight at your NOX Radio stream.

Step-by-step

Setup walkthrough

  1. 01

    Install Mixxx

    Download Mixxx from mixxx.org and install for your operating system. On first launch, point Mixxx at the folder containing your music library.

  2. 02

    Open Preferences → Live Broadcasting

    Click Options → Preferences → Live Broadcasting. This is where Mixxx connects to streaming servers like NOX Radio.

  3. 03

    Enable Live Broadcasting

    Tick "Enable Live Broadcasting". A new server slot appears — click it to configure connection details. You can configure multiple servers and broadcast to several at once.

    Choose server type

    Set Type to Icecast 2 (NOX Radio is Icecast compatible). Server type Shoutcast 2 also works if your station is configured for Shoutcast.

    Paste your NOX Radio credentials

    Copy from your NOX Radio dashboard: — Host: your streaming host — Port: as shown — Login: source (or as specified) — Password: your source password — Mount: /live (or as shown) Set Stream name, description and genre — these show up in radio directories that pull from the stream metadata.

    Audio encoding settings

    Choose Format MP3 or AAC, Bitrate 128 kbps for music, Channels Stereo, Sample rate 44100 Hz. Click OK to save.

  7. 07

    Go live

    Back in the main Mixxx window, click Options → Enable Live Broadcasting (or the broadcast icon in the toolbar). The status indicator turns green when connected — listeners hear what comes out of your master output. Click again to stop broadcasting at the end of your set.

Tips
  • — Mixxx broadcasts whatever it sends to master — including your headphone monitor if you cue a track. Test before going live.
  • — Use Auto DJ mode in Mixxx for unattended music between live mix shows, or hand off to NOX Radio's server-side AutoDJ.
  • — Mixxx supports MIDI controllers — many community DJs use a basic 2-channel controller for hands-on mixing during live shows.
  • — If you record your set locally in Mixxx, you'll have an off-platform archive in addition to NOX Radio Listen Again.
